Defending event winner Max Dumesny heads the list of drivers set to contest the second running of the $10,000 to win Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway next Saturday, October 16. Dumesny and a host of Australia’s finest Sprintcar drivers have qualified for the unique event while a series of wildcard nominations completes the 32 strong field.

Despite winning the inaugural Jackpot event as a wildcard in 2009, Dumesny, a three time Australian Sprintcar champion locked himself into the field along with everyone else via a heat race or feature race victory at Avalon Raceway last summer.

“It’s a unique event where drivers qualify by winning a heat or feature at the venue last summer and with the wildcard nominations anything can happen as we saw last year with Max (Dumesny) winning the ten thousand dollars first prize,” said Avalon Raceway’s Jeff Drew.

With the event beginning with drivers randomly selecting their starting positions in a pair of 25 lap features, only the highest placed finishers advance through to a semi final. Once again the highest finishers will advance to then time trial their way into the final ten car field that will race off for the $10,000 winners cheque over a frantic 12 laps.

“There have been some slight modifications made to the format following last years event but the basics stay the same. Extra touches on the night will be the use of the giant screen while the Eastcoast Pipeline Racing two seater Sprintcar will also be used throughout the night,” said Jeff.

One lucky fan will be able to enjoy a ride in the 2 seater via a raffle on race night with proceeds going to charity while local radio station K-Rock has also agreed to give a ride away in the lead up to the Jackpot Invitational.

Eastcoast Pipeline Racing’s Robbie Farr has begun the current season in the best possible fashion winning his opening three events of the season in a stunning start. Farr will start as one of the pre race favourites as will David Murcott who has driven into victory lane at Avalon Raceway on numerous occasions.

South Australian Sprintcar champion and 2010 Easter Trail round winner Steven Lines is fresh from a recent stint racing in America while Victorian Sprintcar titleholder Stephen Bell is also among the mix.

Many fans will be eager to see young Australian Sprintcar champion James McFadden in action as he carries the coveted #1 for the first time in Victoria since winning the national title in May. At 21 years of age, McFadden became one of the youngest drivers to ever win the Australian title when he beat a stellar field in Darwin.
