Geelong’s Avalon Raceway is ready to bounce back from a recent string of washouts this Saturday night when the mighty V8 powered Super Sedans headline an action packed program. The popular Super Rods continue the V8 theme while Modified Production Sedans, Street Stocks and GP Midgets will round out this Saturday night’s entertainment.

The venues one and only meeting that has been run was back on October 2nd, since then the Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational was lost to the inclement weather as was the opening round of the Eureka Sprintcar Series two weeks later while the most recent meeting also succumbed to wet weather. It has been the worst start to a season in the venue’s 35-year history with the venue management already incurring a significant loss through the washouts.

With Super Sedans and the V8 Super Rods headlining this weekends meeting, Avalon promoter Jeff Drew is confident of a good night’s racing.

“We are hoping to bounce back from the bad start to the season starting this Saturday night.”

“I am pretty sure the speedway fans in general are really keen to see some action on the track and with the rest of the season to look forward to we are encouraging everyone to come out this Saturday night and get a long awaited taste of the racing,” said Jeff.

The venue management saw fit to reprogram the Super Sedans to this weekends program after they were set to appear at an earlier event that was rained out. It will prove to be a great opportunity for those looking to prepare for the annual K-Rock Cup set for decision on January 8th.

“This year’s K-Rock Cup doubles as a round of the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series so it will be a great night but these guys need track time to prepare their cars. The Victorian Super Sedan ranks have never looked so strong and we as a venue are keen to support them as much as we can.”

The Super Rods have also suffered due to the recent wet weather with a rain forcing the cancellation of their most recent event at Portland. Dale Walsh won the opening event of the season for the Super Rods and will be keen to continue his winning form this Saturday night.

Public Gates open at 3pm and the racing action will begin at the usual time of 7pm.
