The popular K-Rock Cup for Super Sedans and the hugely popular Demolition Derby are the headline acts this Saturday night, January 8th at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway. The K-Rock Cup will feature the very best Super Sedan racers from across the country as the event also doubles as the fourth round of the Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series while the Super Rods will continue the V8 theme.

The northern states of Australia are the hotbed of Super Sedan racing and a host of the nations finest will travel south on Saturday night to contest the K-Rock Cup. The NSSS has completed three rounds in Queensland with defending series winner Darren Kane currently leading the championship. Jamie McHugh, Brad Smith, Trent Wilson and Victorian Lucas Roberts are trailing Kane in the championship.

“It’s a huge result thus far for Roberts to be in the championship mix with the likes of Kane, McHugh and Smith. Wayne Brims was victorious last weekend in Brisbane in the most recent round of the championship while defending event winner Matt Pascoe will also return to Avalon,” said commentator Brian Alexander.

“This is arguably one of the best night’s of entertainment all season and with the strong field of Super Sedans contesting the K-Rock Cup it’s a really good night. The demolition derby is always a fan favourite and as I understand it there are a few surprises in the demo derby field this year.”

The demolition derby is a last car running event that sees specially modified cars crash into each other until there is only one left running. It’s an event that has been running almost as long as the venue has been operating and always draws a lot of fans.

The Super Rods will provide ample support on a night of thrills as local Geoff Leigh is the defending event winner at the corresponding night last season. Daryl Nelson is a perennial contender in this event and will also be one to watch.

Gates open at 4pm while racing action begins at 7pm. The Super Sedans will complete engine starts and hot laps from approximately 6pm.
