Avalon Raceway management is hoping for a break in the weather this Saturday night when a great field of Australian Wingless Sprint along with Street Stocks and Modified Production Sedans will compete in the next event on the current schedule. For the third time this season the Demolition Derby has also been set down for decision ensuring the night will be finished with a bang!
In excess of 30 Australian Wingless Sprints have nominated for this weekend’s event with a host of hard charging stars set to appear including Brad Warren while local aces include Andy Hibbert, Paul Drew and Mick Parry. Winchelsea speedster Phil Micallef will also be among the pre race favourites.
The Wingless Sprints utilise what is basically a Sprintcar chassis and running gear while the obvious difference is the V6 power that is used aswell as no top wing. The class is enjoying a boom period with drivers taking the chance to use preloved cars, running gear and even tires from the Sprintcar category that is also enjoying strong fields. A relatively cost affective V6 is bolted into the chassis and the class has the ingredients that has attracted many racers to the class.
“So many kids from Junior Sedans and even more experienced drivers from other classes are stepping into the Australian Wingless Sprint class as they are very affordable class. The racing is very competitive and numbers continue to grow,” said Avalon Raceway’s Jeff Drew.
A healthy field of Street Stocks will be also on the card along with the Modified Production Sedans, which always put on close and exciting racing. The demo derby is also sure to attract a lot of interest as it is a once a year event that the venue hosts as the field of contestants hope to be the last man standing in the popular derby.
Gates open this Saturday night at 4:30pm while racing will start from 7pm at Avalon Raceway.
