Geelong’s Avalon Raceway is set to host several key events this Saturday night as the Super Sedans are set to rerun the K Rock Cup while the Lightning Sprints will contest their Victorian Title. The Demolition Derby has also been set down for decision while Wingless Sprints and Super Rods will round out the huge program of events.
Fresh from his record fifth Victorian Super Sedan title, Bendigo’s Lucas Roberts heads what is a strong field for the annual K Rock Cup Super Sedan event. The state championship was run last weekend in Gippsland which has ensured a strong contingent of drivers will remain in the region to prepare for this weekends Avalon event.
“The K Rock Cup was to be staged in January but it was rained out,” said Avalon commentator Brian Alexander.
“Then we rescheduled the event for the first Saturday in February and it also rained out.”
“We really hope that we can get this event in because it will be a huge night with so many classes competing with plenty to race for.”
Alexander also confirmed the current season is quickly approaching its final event on Good Friday and encouraged fans to make the most of the few opportunities left to attend the raceway.
“We have this Saturday night left, Saturday April 9th and then we wrap it up with the Easter Sprintcar Trail on Friday 22nd of April.”
“It’s been a tough year with so many washouts but we are hoping to finish the season on a high note and we are already looking forward to next year with some great events on the calendar including one confirmed Australian title for one category.”
Along with Roberts, last weekends runner up in the Victorian title, Dave Gartner has also confirmed his entry and the South Australian ace will also prove tough to beat. Gun Queenslander Trent Wilson will also be a chance at victory while Traralgon’s Mick Nicola knows his way around Avalon better than anyone and could start a narrow favourite for Saturday’s K Rock Cup.
Public gates open at 4:30pm with on track action set to kick off at approximately 7pm.
