Victorian Sprintcar fans are already eager to find their way to Geelong’s Avalon Raceway tomorrow night (Saturday, November 12) for the opening round of the Essendon Ford Sprintcar Premiership but things have just got a little better. The event also doubles as the fourth round of the Eureka Sprintcar Series and a large car count has just got bigger with confirmation that a couple of stars will join the party!
2010 Australian Sprintcar champion James McFadden along with 2011 Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic winner Steven Lines have confirmed they will be among the already strong list of entrants. The total contestants has now reached 48 and the addition of some serious contenders has just made the task a little more difficult for the likes of Eureka Series point leader Jamie Veal, defending series champ John Vogels along with current Avalon track champion Stephen Bell.
“McFadden became the youngest ever Australian title winner when he won in Darwin in 2010 and his following in Victoria is pretty significant,” said Avalon commentator Brian Alexander.
“Both James and Stephen Lines have an exciting style that tends to see them as fan favourites with their incredible desire to win. To have both these racers join the already great list of drivers we have coming this event will be a beauty.”
McFadden enjoyed success last summer against some of the world’s finest Sprintcar racers when he was victorious at Mount Gambier during the King’s Challenge. McFadden has already seen a podium finish in the Eureka Series this season with a runner up finish in the second round at Murray Bridge.
Lines meanwhile is no stranger to victory lane at Avalon and has been a regular on the podium in recent years. A strong win early this season in Mackay has set the tone for Lines to once again step into the Dave Challons owned #45 in an attempt to upset the Eureka regulars. Lines is in great form with a runner up finish last weekend in the Australian Sprintcar Masters in Adelaide.
Throw in these couple of speedsters that will join the likes of Veal, Darren Mollenoyux, Brett Milburn, Mike Van Bremen, Victorian champ Tim Rankin, Domain Ramsay along with Grant Anderson to name but a few and there is no better place to be on Saturday night.
Public gates will open at 3pm this Saturday night at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.
