Sprintcar racing returns to Avalon Raceway on Saturday December 10th with the Eureka Sprintcar Series arriving for their seventh round of the championship. The event also doubles as the second round of the Essendon Ford backed Avalon Raceway Sprintcar track championship and despite only one round completed so far, the season long race for the brand new Ford Fiesta is starting to take shape.

Although committed to World Series Sprintcars for a number of the track championship rounds, current leader is Mount Gambier based star Steven Lines. Vaulting to the top of the track championship leader board courtesy of his win in November, Lines leads five time and current Eureka Sprintcar Series champ John Vogels with fellow Simpson resident and current Victorian Sprintcar titleholder Tim Rankin in third.

“With Lines committed to World Series commitments on December 10, the door will be open for several drivers to gather further points on the race for the Essendon Ford Sprintcar Track Championship,” confirmed Avalon’s Jeff Drew.

“Stephen Bell is the defending track champion and he will be just one of a number of drivers looking to capitalise on the points available. It’s too early to start counting points but after the next event the top 10 in the track championship will really take shape.”

Lines is no stranger to winning Sprintcar track championships following his success at Warrnambool last summer despite missing a couple of rounds. With World Series Sprintcars coming to Avalon Raceway late in December, Lines along with former Australian Sprintcar champion James McFadden will have an opportunity to add to their points haul from the November race.

“December gets busy for the Sprintcars with three events including the Fireball Derby on the 10th, Boxing night for the annual Gold Cup while World Series will be here on the 30th,” said Jeff.

Another strong field of 40 Sprintcars are expected to converge on Avalon Raceway for their next event.
