Arguably one of the most popular night’s on Avalon Raceway’s calendar is set for decision this Saturday night with the annual Super Sedan K-Rock Cup while the V8 Super Rods will play ample support as the wildly popular Demolition Derby will round out the action filled night.

While the Demo Derby always commands attention from fans, the evening will also feature celebrity go kart races with several of the K-Rock crew taking advantage of the opportunity to take to the dirt in the karts. Always a family orientated event, Saturday night will have something for everything with some great racing assured before the Demo Derby rounds out the night’s proceedings.

New South Wales ace and multiple Queensland, Victorian and New South Wales Super Sedan champion Wayne Brims heads the interstate assault on the K-Rock Cup while Ash Bergmeier, Peter Nicola, Craig Lappin, James Petch and past winner Brad Wicks are among the strong challengers.

It will be the first hitout of the season at Avalon Raceway for the Super Sedans and with a huge crowd expected the entertainment will be non stop.

“This event always provides plenty of action along with a few laughs as the K-Rock crew really get into the spirit of the event and they certainly make sure they enjoy themselves,” said K-Rock spokesman and Avalon announcer Brian Alexander.

“In the past we have had car soccer in amongst the racing while Saturday night we will see the guys and girls racing around in a celebrity version of go kart racing, it will be a great night.”

The event has attracted 20 Super Rods with perennial contender Daryl Nelson leading the way while local Geoff Leigh takes to the track for the first time this season. Last year’s corresponding event was washed out and the Avalon management are hoping for fine weather this weekend.

‘You never like to see washouts, especially for any of the biggest shows of the year so last years rainout was a real disappointment. Everyone involved at Avalon can’t wait for Saturday night to come around so we can see a great mix of racing and fun events that the K-Rock Cup has become so well known for,” said Alexander.

Gates will open at 4pm this Saturday night with racing set to begin at the usual time of 7pm with the Demolition Derby later in evening.
