$10.000 Jackpot winner David Murcott and last start winner Steven Lines are itching to get it on in the Fireball Sprintcar Derby this Saturday night at Avalon Raceway.
The two drivers have been the most impressive early season standouts and with valuable Essendon Ford $20.000 Sweepstakes points up for grabs on Saturday, winning is critical for both drivers.
They open the World Series Speedweek in Adelaide over the festive season which means the Sharp Cranes Gold Cup classic on Boxing Night at Avalon will be critical to the season long point score.
“I don’t think you can sneeze at any of these impressive awards that sponsors and promoters put on the line,” predicted Murcott.
The Tasmanian born driver, who lists Avalon as his home track these days, is a clay master on the Geelong circle.
Lines, who is predicted to give James McFadden a torrid time in the World Series over the summer, is establishing a win record at Avalon that will take ages to equal or better.
He won the Easter Trail between Avalon, Mount Gambier and Warrnambool and then returned to snare opening round points in the Essendon Ford Sweepstakes.
Third generation wonder boy Nick Lacey has an opportunity to produce his best on Saturday night before he heads out on WSS duty.
“he lad has a terrific future and a win over the best at this point of his career would give him great self confidence,” said Avalon’s Jeff Drew.
Saturday night’s show boasts a knockout entry list and will be followed by the annual Sharp Cranes Gold Cup on Wednesday, 26 December and the World Series USA v Australia Spectacular on Sunday, 30 December.
Details relative to the big meetings will commence on FOX and SPEED as from this Sunday.
