Avalon Raceway welcomes Australia’s longest travelling speedway tournament to town this Monday night with the best sprintcar drivers in the land for the fourth round of the Enzed World Series Sprintcars presented by Geelong Harley Davidson, Hog’s Breath Cafe and Carline.
Since the early 1990’s the popular WSS has been landing at Avalon Raceway and this Monday night’s huge entry list of near 50 is one of the best with the penultimate round of the busy Speedweek winding up which started on Boxing Day in Adelaide.
With two rounds of the championship done it is the form driver of the summer, Steven Lines who they all have to again stop. He’s now won eight A Mains in the 2013-14 season, including the WSS series opener in Adelaide and was runner-up in Murray Bridge to eight-time WSS champion Brooke Tatnell.
Prior to the third round at Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier, Lines held a slender 21 point lead from Tatnell and Luke Dillon, which are all Western Australian teams.
It maybe though the driver in fourth overall that could grab the win at Avalon in current Australian sprintcar champion and defending WSS series champion James McFadden. He is again right in contention for the outright series. With two top six placings so far the superstar driver will be looking to emulate his result of two years ago at Avalon with another win and better his runner-up placing to American Jason Johnson from last season.
Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart will again be aboard the ultra-professional Monte Motorsport machine and was runner-up in the overall WSS last season. He will spearhead the Yankee charge of five, with Randy Hannagan, Geoff Ensign, Dale Blaney and exciting Californian Kyle Hirst.
The father-son team of Garry and son Jordyn Brazier make a welcome return to the tournament and while the 1993-94 WSS champ will be keen to win, he’ll also be also keeping a close eye on his son Jordyn who makes his Series debut all under the steely eye of grandfather and speedway legend, Steve.
Robbie Farr and Trevor Green sit in the WSS Top 10 standings after two rounds and both carry solid form into this year’s series and could easily be on the podium.
Others in the mix will be contracted WSS stars Jamie Veal, Jackson Delamont and Dylan Jenkin while other strong contenders include Shaun Dobson, David Murcott, Grant Anderson, Johnny Vogels, Stephen Bell, Jeremy Cross, Brad Keller and the always exciting Ian Madsen, fresh from a busy American campaign.
Public gates will open from 3.30pm and racing from 6.30pm.
