GEELONG’s Domain Ramsay is looking for his debut win to catapult him to the top of the leaderboard in the $5000 to-win penultimate round of the Eureka Garages and Sheds sprintcar series this Sunday night in the Great Southern Showdown at Avalon Raceway.
“I haven’t won in the 410 sprintcar class yet, I’m hoping this weekend we can finally do it though,” Ramsay said.
The 43 year-old Anakie quarry manager is lying fourth in the championship standings, some 539 points behind leader Jeremy Cross, and desperately needs a win with three rounds left at Simpson (this Sat night) , Avalon and Warrnambool.
“We’ve had things not go our way at times and then we’ve had good nights. Some consistency is what’s really needed now as it would make a massive difference. Out results now who we do too need to do a whole night well.”
His best results this season in the tough series have been two seventh placings and Ramsay has all of the A Main finals despite having too work hard coming from the last-chance B Main on six occasions.
“I do need to qualify better to make it easier on myself for the end of the night and the feature race. Hopefully we can turn that around this weekend.
“I’ve won races in the 360 sprintcars and one day we’ll win own and that’s why we race, it’s still the main aim for us, to win,” Ramsay said.
While Ramsay looks to grab his first win against 44 others, the race for the series lead will again be on in earnest with Cross just ahead of Brett Milburn and Shaun Dobson.
Making things tough will be newly crowned World Series Sprintcars Rookie of the Year Jamie Veal while hard-charging veteran racer Stephen Bell looks tough to beat also.
A good field of Dirt Modifieds are again on the program and public gates will open at 3.30pm. A one hour pit walk will also be held commencing from the same time while on track racing action is from 6pm.
