AVALON Raceway’s season final race meeting of the season is set to be a cracker on Good Friday night and while the chase for overall victory will be tight the battle for two drivers to win a new car will also be a must-watch.
The traditional opening leg of the tri-city Easter Sprintcar Trail has attracted 56 entries from across Australia including last year’s Avalon round winner and in-form South Australian, Trevor Green and over $120,000 in prizemoney is up for grabs.
Green will be charging hard while last year’s overall Easter Trial winner Daniel Pestka is strapping into the Matt Eastham V88 machine and everyone’s favourite driver and the winningest in the Trail’s history Max Dumesny returns in his Valvoline Maxim.
Other drivers in the mix for victory are Jamie Veal, Steven Lines, Darren Mollenoyux, Jeremy Cross, John Vogels and Mike Van Bremen brings down the chequers on his 19-year racing career.
Good Friday’s event marks the fifth consecutive season that a brand new Ford Fiesta will be presented to the winner of the season long Avalon Raceway Sprintcar track championship courtesy of Essendon Ford.
Only one of two drivers can grab the keys and drive away in the new Ford, Shaun Dobson leads on 860 points just ahead of the consistent Brett Milburn.
“It’s a great way to end the track championship,” said Avalon Raceway boss Jeff Drew.
“It’s a great way to finish off the season and it give fans at Friday night’s meeting something to watch throughout the night for other than the race winner.”
“Without the support of a great speedway fan like David Dickson and through his dealership Essendon Ford we have managed to create a special prize for drivers to compete for at Avalon and we are proud to be associated with David and Essendon Ford,” Jeff said.
Friday night’s winner will pocket $5,000 and there’s a $10,000 bonus to any driver who can win all three A-main’s across the weekend.
Avalon Raceway’s Good Friday event is the first leg of the three round Easter Trail with Saturday’s event heading to Borderline Speedway, Mount Gambier while Sunday night’s third and final leg will be held at Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool.
Avalon management are also encouraging fans to attend the hour long ‘Pit Party’ from 3pm while public gates will open at 3pm with racing set to begin from the earlier time of 5pm.
The fast and furious Super Rods are also on the card along with a demolition derby and a spectacular fireworks display will close out the meeting and the 2013-14 racing season at the venue presented by Essendon Ford and Camden Neon Signs.
