Being the son of a gun often works in many areas of sport, but sprintcar racing it’s virtually a given.
The Lacey, Rush, Farr, Kelly, Wanless, Dumesny, Krikke and Anderson families can all boast famous dads who cut a swathe through the sprintcar fields in another era only to be trailed by successful offsprings.
Grant Anderson is a case in point.
His dad David was Wagga’s most outstanding sprint car driver and brought major publicity and awareness to the NSW country town.
Grant has basically done the same with his team though he has no home circuit.
A fierce competitor with outstanding equipment and an insatiable will to win, Anderson was among the first to be included in the qualifying line up for the $10.000 to win Sprintcar Jackpot at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on Saturday night, 8 November.
“He has been a front runner at the place for pace at all our big meetings and I expect him to do the same in this year’s Jackpot,” said Raceway spokesman Jeff Drew today.
Combined Waste will sponsor the 10K to win in a fortnight when the floodlights are switched on at the Raceway.
This year’s $10.000 pay off to the winner has attracted a wonderful field, including national champion David Murcott, World series title holder Steven Lines, WA’s globe trotting Robbie Farr, SA wonder boy Daniel Pestka and the pick of the Vics, including Jamie Veal, Darren Mollenoyux, Johnny Vogels and Albury’s Grant Anderson.
