Johnny Vogels might be recognised as the tribal elder of sprintcar racing in Victoria, but he has a calm and smooth approach to Saturday night’s 10K to win Jackpot at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.
He believes there are two approaches a driver can plan for, one to go hard or go home and two to set a plan and sneak under the radar.
He reasons that the top drivers probably share a belief that they deserve to be in the final field of 12 and the rest can wind up there if others encounter bad luck.
“You have to race hard in your heat and be smart in the semi final before a one lap time trial that has to be perfect,” counters John.
“I am under no illusion going into Saturday’s meeting and believe I have as good a chance of starting near the front as any other competitor,” he believes.
Vogels is one of Australia’s most experienced and respected drivers.
He tries to stay out of other driver’s wrecks and skirmishes, runs his own races and always works towards a plan.
Saturday night’s Combined Waste sponsored Sprincar Jackpot has attracted a star studded field that includes the best in the business.
So keep a lookout for Johnny V and the amazing number 70 rocketship!
