Tasmanian Brad Smith returns to the mainland for another big season in super sedans, commencing at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway this Saturday night.
Smith has his Insane GF chassis tweaked and the V8 640hp motor tuned for a spectacular season debut.
“The supers were growing in numbers throughout last summer and the category has some new faces again for this year which is pleasing,” said Raceway spokesman Jeff Drew today.
Local driver Brad Wicks, Lionel West, NSW entrant Lyle Harris and Anthony Randall will serve up the opposition to Smith to ensure he doesn’t have things too much to himself.
The V8 super sedans aside, the bulk of the prime motivators on Saturday night will come from the wingless sprinters and formula 500 track terrors.
James Aranyosi was outstanding last summer and again bears watching on Saturday, particularly when he clashes with Shane Van Duynhoven, another big mover in the 500cc powered lightning rods.
Joining the open wheel festival on Saturday will be the wingless sprintcars that offer new talent, fast racing and the inevitable traffic touches.
It will be a tough assignment for curators as both the wingless sprints and formula 500s like a moist and loose surface while the sedans prefer a tacky strip, the complete opposite.
Give it too much juice and the open wheelers face a bicycling problem that even Cadel Evans would not enjoy!
Racing on Saturday night will start at 7.00 p.m. sharp.
