Race fans will be serviced by a splendid cast of sprintcar superstars, including form driver Jamie Veal in the annual Sharp Cranes Gold Cup at Avalon Raceway on Boxing night.
The annual holiday season feature always produces plenty of clay electricity and Veal is working to a serious plan.
A win in the 25 lapper will give him a bucket load of points towards a new Ford Fiesta, courtesy of Essendon Ford and valued on the road at just under $20.000.
“Timing today is everything in speedway,” argued Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew.
“A number of drivers hit the interstate trail on Boxing night in the hope of dominating and collecting between five and ten thousand dollars,” he continued.
“But a miscue and you are facing a big repair bill and plenty of travel to make it back to Geelong, so that is why our Gold Cup has a season defining pay out if you are successful on Boxing night,” Jeff added.
Veal, Sydney pros Ian Loudoun and Mark Attard, South Australian Daniel Pestka and Victoria’s young guns Tim Van Ginniken, Jack Lee, Tim Rankin and Darren Mollenoyux are all capable of landing a big win.
The Christmas Cup for modified production cars promises to be a nail biter with Commodore racer Justin Drew likely to share the same mark with arch rival Russell Bent in a Falcon.
Friday night’s big meeting starts at 7.00 p.m. and with a forecast of light showers during the day, a perfect racetrack awaits teams and drivers.
