Albury based sprintcar ace Grant Anderson has little on his mind other than clinching the Victorian championship at Avalon Raceway on Saturday night.
Originally based in Wagga, Grant is the son of legendary race ace David Anderson who raced all over Australia for many years in company with Garry Rush, George Tatnell and local clay master Frank Lacey.
Grant (pictured) has stormed on to the local scene, won several major meetings in Victoria and spent part of last summer giving internationals Steve Kinser, Brad Sweet and Dale Blaney added competition in Sydney.
Anderson has passed up the opportunity of racing in Queensland this weekend and a potential $20.000 pay day to go all out for the Victorian title.
The clay bullring at Avalon is one of his favourite ovals though a number of interstate racers avoid it like the plague.
“It has a way of punishing you if you are untidy so you race accordingly,” is the Grant Anderson approach.
However the experienced driver faces a tough championship initiation on Saturday night from Simpson’s outstanding veteran Johnny Vogels.
He came from nowhere to place fifth in the recent World Series round at Geelong
and is in sparkling form.
Tasmanian Tim Hutchins, Sydney’s Grand Annual classic winner Ian Loudoun, South Australia’s Daniel Pestka and Brett Milburn are just a few others in the shootout with a winning chance.
Both the 410 open class and secondary 360 categories will share a special night of sprintcar competition on Saturday with racing scheduled from 7.00 p.m.
