When all else fails in Sprintcar racing, a fresh 850 horsepower can change your luck at short notice.

South Australian Daniel Pestka (pictured courtesy of Corey Gibson)) started the summer season on a tear only to encounter motor woes over the past six weeks.

Tonight at Avalon Raceway the Mat Eastham team racer has a new 410c.i. Chevy in his car to ensure he runs trouble free and collects the $20.000 season premiership award from Essendon Ford.

However nothing is guaranteed in Sprintcar competition and form man Jamie Veal is deliberately treating the meeting as nothing special.

If Veal can win tonight’s 30 lapper and keep Pestka out of the top dozen, he will audaciously rob the Victorian champion of a huge pay out.

Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines, Victorian gun Brett Milburn and Sydney racers Max and Matt Dumesny, Ian Loudoun, Jackson Delamont and Sammy Walsh must also be considered as serious threats.

Father and son Max and Matt Dumesny bring a blend of vast experience and raw talent to the event.

Max has won every major title and open race in Australia and has competed with distinction in the United States.

Now in his twilight years, the 50 plus veteran will not give a centimetre in combat, a point that every driver should keep in mind tonight and as evidenced in the Gary Reid photo of Max (5) and Ian Madsen banging wheels.

Racing starts at six o’clock and there will be a pit walk for spectators at 3.00p.m.

The traditional Easter 3CS super rod cup and Demolition Derby will be held along with the colourful K-Rock Fireworks sky show.
