Avalon Raceway roared into life as the mighty Speedcars headed the bill with Super Sedans and huge field of Wingless in support.
The night starts with time trials for the speedcars and wingless and early on we see it’s going to be a great night of racing. David Cook posts quick time for the Wingless while Anthony Chaffey gets it done for the Speedcars. The heats begin and 25v Matt Papa looks strong from a fast finishing 11v Troy Jordan and 06s Paul Murphy. Heat 2 and 06v Anthony Chaffey has contact with 88v Craig Smith and flips in corner one, Smith then ends up in the wall and also flips. After the restart, it’s the 59v of Ashley Booker from 02v Paul Farrell and 71v Domain Ramsey. Heat 3 and 8v Jack Day just holds off Troy Jordan by the narrowest of margins with 6s Paul Murphy doing the same to Anthony Chaffey. Heat 4 delivers a win to n89 Brayden Wilmington from a fast finishing Ashley Booker and current series points leader n7 Nathan Smee.
The thundering V8 Super Sedans roll out for their 20 lap final and we start to see what the track can deliver. Lucus Roberts, who has been on a mission all night, works his way through the field and takes the win, Brad Wicks comes from position 10 to secure second place and Neil Whitnish is in for 3rd. During the break we talk to Super Sedan driver Lionel West about his exciting attempt to reach 300MPH on a salt lake in South Australia. For more info see Bronzeaussie300mph.com.
The Speedcar Super Series final starts and the tow truck is called early after Ian Jones has a collision in the 3rd corner. Troy Jordan, who has looked really fast through the heats, is out after 2 laps and Paul Farrell joins him infield after 4 laps with a flat left rear. The final continues and a great battle develops between Nathan Smee and Domain Ramsay, this was to continue for the length of the race. Anthony Chaffey has fixed the car after major airtime in the 2nd heat and is making a challenge to the leaders. On the checkers it’s Smee from Domain with Chaffey making a dive for the line. A great final and Smee continues to lead in the point’s race.
In the Wingless final v43 Daniel Storer takes strong form from the heats and wins the A main. V36 David Cook almost stole it on the line while v98 Peter Logue just managed to keep v1 James Wren from the podium.
