The 2016 Geelong Speedway Revival – Motoring Festival was a celebration of speed at Avalon Raceway Saturday night.

The 26th running of the Beasley Memorial hit the Avalon clay with a strong field of local and interstate drivers, all competing to become part of Speedcar history. The heats deliver a mix of great racing and intrigue as some early favorites have their teams working hard to keep the cars in contention. By the end, 21 drivers present for the Beasley memorial and the chance to enjoy the spoils of the podium. The early pace is cracking, the track widens out and we see several lines open up. The first caution comes 11 laps in and gives everyone a chance to catch their breath. Even from here we can see NSW97 Matt Jackson is on a mission and with a healthy chase group of V6 Anthony Chaffey, V97 Kaidon Brown and V10 Travis Mills the next 20 laps deliver a great race worthy of the title. That’s how they cross the line and with champagne showers for all, the winning group celebrate.

Heat results:

  1. Travis Mills, Michael Stewart, Stuart Ferguson
  2. Matt Jackson, Kaidon Brown, David Alford
  3. Andy Pearce, Anthony Chaffey, Ashley Booker
  4. Nick Parker, Mitch Whiting, Domian Ramsay
  5. Anthony Chaffey, Travis Mills, Ashley Booker
  6. Matt Jackson, Keith Astrella, Paul Farrell

The supporting cast of vintage speedway vehicles provided the crowd with a snapshot of past racing glory with the Stock Rods/Heavy Rods going toe to toe and winning new fans.

Our next meeting is the 10 of December as Avalon Raceway hosts Street Stocks, Mod Prods, Super Sedans and V8 Dirt Modified’s. Santa will pay a visit and there will be lots of excitement for the kids.
