Avalon Raceway once again hosted the longest running Modified Production feature race in Victoria, the West Coast Classic, Saturday night. Also on the bill was the Bruce Riddiford Memorial for Street Stocks. The night started in warm conditions and finished the same with racing hot and heavy in the features.
The V8 Dirt Mods where a late inclusion, but gave us fast paced action all night including the final where Daryl Hickson beat out Steve Milthorpe for the win with Loyd Hobson in for third.
The grid for the West Coast Classic rolled out next and from the start we new it would be a tight race. Visiting V8 Super car driver Cam Waters said he was enjoying the clay as Conrod caught up with him during a red light stoppage after Bryan Galley flipped down the back straight. After a couple of yellow conditions we saw Justin Drew drive away with a strong win from Darren Cockerill and Mark Carlin.
The Bruce Riddiford Memorial starts with a big grid of Street Stocks and plenty of crash and bash.
Mark Jennings is too good and takes the title, Maurice Shearman for 2nd and Shaun Henry 3rd.
Special mention to Andrew Norton, who while traveling back to WA from the Title race in Queensland, stopped in with his pit crew of his dog and cut some laps at Avalon.
Our next race will be the 4th of March for the Great Southern Show Down for sprint cars, part of the Eureka Sprintcar Series. Keep up to date on avalonraceway.com.au and our face book page.
