With a massive crowd in the house, Avalon Raceway hosted the 2017 version of night one of the Easter Trail. Over 50 teams had nominated for the Geelong Harley-Davidson/Camden Building and Signage opening event and straight away the impression was we would see a memorial night of racing.
At the end of the night it would be the brilliant driving of Shaun Dobson that would secure his second ever round win. Ian Loudoun would cross the line in second after leading the main event early. Then the ‘Race within a Race’ which kept the crowd on the edge of their seats delivered all it had promised. Tim Van Ginneken had built a fingernail lead of 5 points from Darren Mollenoyux in the Essendon Ford track Championship and the final event for 410 Sprintcars this season would decide the winner. After an epic battle for 3rd place in the main event it was down to just 0.013 seconds for a brand new car thanks to Dicko. Darren Mollenoyux in a last corner dive, captures the win by the width of a tear off and the crowd erupts.
The fireworks show breaks the crips air and the night ends with a spirited demo derby.
The Easter Trail heads to Mt Gambier, while Molly measure the carport to make sure there’s enough room for the new Essendon Ford Festiva.
Our next event is April 29 for the A Plus Powder Coating 360 race.
