To celebrate the end of the 2016-2017 season, crowds flocked to Avalon Raceway for the running of the first ever Digger Cup. This special event showcased 360 Sprintcars and provided an opportunity for the racing community to to say thank you to those who have given and still give so much.
A stellar field lined the track as a remembrance service was presented by special guest Warrant Officer Class One Mr Peter Swandale with Mr Bruce McClure, Mr David Dixon and Mr Kevin Freeman in attendance, with Ethan Chuter as our bugler.
2 rounds of heats are completed with a mix of youth and experience providing exciting, fast racing. Passing on this wide track is a highlight and the crowd are treated to some exceptional displays of skill. Another feature is the small group of rookie drivers to the class that represent their teams well.
The bronze, silver and gold shoot outs move Brett Milburn driving the S36 up to P2 for the A main, while Jordan Charge is upside down after posting quicktime and the race is on to be ready for the A main out of P1. With 25 laps on the clock, we get set for the first ever A Plus Powder Coating-Digger Cup and its a race to remember. Jordan Charge and his team have fixed the car and made the A main, the crowd show its support. Brett Milburn is on a mission, a couple of early re-starts do nothing to dampen his endeavour. The last 15 laps is a feast of 2 wide passing and flat to the boards racing. Over the line its Brett Milburn from a fast finishing Rusty Hickman and Brayden Parr in for the final podium position.
Thank you to Phil, Shaz and the team from A Plus Powder Coating, our special guests, the Vintage Mods, Ian Vale and his team and to the fans for their support.
The 360-Digger Cup will be back next year bigger and better.
