Official release: Avalon Raceway
October 1, 2022
A spectacular crash in the Speedcar main event has curtailed the opening night of the Avalon Raceway season.
The first feature race of the night was marred by a vicious rollover involving Victorian second-generation racer and front-runner Harley Bishop who was taken to Geelong Hospital for further observation and treatment after his car flipped several times on lap six of the event.
Bishop was the form driver of the Dutton One Southern Speedcar Tour winning both heat races and looking extremely quick in the first third of the A-Main before his unfortunate race accident.
The remainder of the feature race was unfortunately cancelled due to substantial damage to the catch fence – repairs of the fence would have taken the race meeting beyond the curfew adhered to by Avalon Raceway and the remainder of the evening’s race program was unfortunately cancelled.
Despite chilly conditions an excellent crowd had turned out to see Speedcars, Wingless Sprints, Steet Stocks and V8 Dirt Modifieds.
Heat racing on the night saw the following drivers score winning results:

Heat 1: Harley Bishop
Heat 2: Harley Bishop
