Saturday was such a beautiful day until daylight turned to night and the clouds rolled in.

The sprinters completed their preliminary heats and as the cars rolled out for the Eureka Garages and Sheds Great Southern Showdown, down it came in buckets.

Ten minutes later it was obvious the rain wasn’t about to let up so the main event was lost to the weather and all drivers qualified to run in the Showdown were awarded 100 Essendon Ford premiership points and the Sweepstakes grand final will now be added to the Good Friday Easter Classic finale at Avalon Raceway.

“The premiership has been fabulous this summer and when the rain started on Saturday, I was absolutely gutted,” said Raceway spokesman Jeff Drew.

“It had narrowed down to a two way fight between Daniel Pestka and Jamie Veal and I don’t think there was a soul at the track who wasn’t on their toes for the clash,”

The traditional Good Friday Easter Trail Classic will now feature the Essendon Ford $20.000 Sweepstakes grand final, a fabulous Fireworks Spectacular and a no holds barred Demolition Derby.
