With a brand new Ford Fiesta up for grabs the Avalon Raceway Sprintcar track championship is starting to heat up with two rounds of the Essendon Ford Sprintcar premiership now complete. Following a fourth place finish last Sunday night in the Gold Cup, Albury’s Grant Anderson has leapt into the lead ahead of feature winner Darren Mollenoyux and Stephen Bell.

Anderson finished runner up in the first round of the track championship earlier in December and now holds a 50 point advantage over Mollenoyux. Consistent results could be the difference with Anderson’s fourth place finish last Sunday night enough to vault him into the points lead.

“Grant’s one of a number of drivers that are keen to race every night at Avalon and have a shot at the Ford Fiesta so it’s great to see his commitment is paying off,” said raceway spokesman Jeff Drew.

“Mind you both Mollenoyux, Bell and a bunch of other racers have there eye on the Essendon Ford prize also!”

“Thursday night’s round of World Series Sprintcars is also the next round of the Essendon Ford Sprintcar premiership so I am sure ‘Ando’, ‘Molly’ and ‘Belly’ will all be looking for a strong result while also keeping an eye on the track championship points.”

Avalon Raceway would like to acknowledge the invaluable support of David Dickson, dealer principle at Essendon Ford for making such a prize a reality.
