Geelong’s Avalon Raceway is set to wave goodbye to arguably the toughest season in its history this Friday night when the Easter Sprintcar Trail will bring 56 Sprintcars to the Lara venue. Defending Easter Sprintcar Trail champ Steven Lines leads the Sprintcar field while the Super Rods, Fireworks and a Demolition Derby are all on the Good Friday program.

Popular among both fans and fellow racers, Lines returns to the venue this season driving for West Australian outfit Monte Motorsports and has enjoyed a strong season that included a first ever World Series Sprintcars A-main victory in Murray Bridge. The Mount Gambier based ace followed that with a career best win in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic, arguably Australia’s toughest Sprintcar race to win against some of the world’s best Sprintcar drivers. A star studded field is set to challenge Lines for supremacy this Friday night including perennial favourite Max Dumesny along with recently crowned South Australian Sprintcar champ David Murcott.

Entering its 32nd year, the Easter Sprintcar Trail includes visits to Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway on Saturday night with Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium rounding out the trail on Sunday night.

Dumesny has enjoyed the most success in Easter Trail history with 31 victories in his storied career while Lines’ victory at Avalon last year was his first. Lines quickly doubled that figure when he went back to back, also winning the Borderline round last Easter. Dumesny has also visited victory lane on no less than nine occasions at Avalon Raceway in Easter Trail competition while his nearest rival sits on three wins.

As dominant as Point Cook’s David Murcott has been at Avalon Raceway in recent seasons, the speedy former Tasmanian has only enjoyed Easter Trail success on one occasion, a trend that he will be hoping to change this Friday night. Apart from Dumesny, Lines and Murcott, Albury’s Grant Anderson is the only other driver to have won a round of the Easter Trail at Avalon ensuring there is a good possibility of a first time winner this Friday night.

“Nine of our shows have been washouts and with the Great Southern Showdown in March severely affected by the weather it has been a long year,” said Avalon commentator Brian Alexander.

“There has been a lot of preparations for this Friday night and the Sprintcars have come out in force with a huge field and I know that the fans have been starved of racing somewhat this year. We can’t thank them enough for their support despite the terrible run of bad weather and I sincerely hope we see everyone come out and join us for our final meeting of the year this Friday night.”

The Essendon Ford Sprintcar Premiership will also come to a thrilling conclusion this Friday night with Stephen Bell, John Vogels and Darren Mollenoyux in the box seat. One driver will literally drive away a brand new Ford Fiesta courtesy of Essendon Ford by winning the season long Sprintcar track championship.

Lilydale’s Mike Van Bremen is amongst a select group of Sprintcar drivers that have won at Avalon this year including Warrnambool’s Darren Mollenoyux, Murcott, Bell and more recently Brett Milburn.

A talented group of interstate stars are all set to make the journey to Avalon Raceway on Friday night including a staggering five teams making the trip across Bass Strait from Tasmania. Fans are also reminded that the racing action will get underway at the earlier time of 6:30pm with public gates opening at 3pm.
