Milburn Stays Dry To Win At Avalon Raceway

Avalon Raceway’s run with the fickle weather continued last night when the Great Southern Showdown for Sprintcars was run following a major revamp of the format and also the field changed significantly. History will show Eureka Sprintcar Series regular Brett Milburn outrun the field to win the $5,000 first prize ahead of John Vogels and Matthew Reed in front of a healthy crowd that braved the wet conditions.

Sunday Night Is Showdown Night At Avalon Raceway

This Sunday night, yes that’s right, Sunday night March 13th Avalon Raceway is set to roar back into action with the Great Southern Showdown the highlight with the extra added bonus being the event doubles as the Victorian Sprintcar title. Almost 40 Sprintcars have nominated for Sunday night’s event and with a host of interstate ‘guns’ on their way the local heroes will have to bring their ‘A game’.

Incredibly Avalon Raceway has suffered its eighth washout of the season with tonight’s scheduled event cancelled. In what has been a terrible run of cancellations, the venue has been washed out more than it has run this season.

Avalon Raceway’s meeting scheduled for tonight (Feb 5) has been washed out due to 85mm of rain falling yesterday afternoon and into last night. The K Rock Cup for Super Sedans and the Lucas Oil Southern Speedcar Tour were the headline events along with the Demo Derby.

Allansford’s Stephen Bell continued his excellent form last night at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway when he won the 30th Essendon Ford Sprintcar President’s Cup ahead of a world class field. Bell led home American professional Shane Stewart while early leader Robbie Farr muscled home his ailing mount in third. A great crowd witnessed the action with a large field of touring American’s also making an appearance against some of Australia’s best Sprintcar drivers.

Avalon Raceway Set For A Presidential Showdown

The International Sprintcar stars are set to come out and play this Wednesday night at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway as they tackle Australia’s best in the 30th running of the $5,000 to win President’s Cup.
