With Friday night being the next Sprintcar event at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway, the Essendon Ford Sprintcar Track Championship is beginning to take shape. With Hi-Tec Oils World Series Sprintcars coming to town their will be yet more track championship points on offer and with so many interstate and International invaders coming the current standings could also be vastly different following the event.

Following his fourth place finish in Monday night’s Sprintcar Gold Cup, current Victorian Sprintcar champion Tim Rankin now leads the Essendon Ford track championship from the ultra consistant Darren Mollenoyux with Monday’s feature winner Jamie Veal in third.

“I am sure most would have thought that Veal would be the leader following his excellent win however a low finish at our opening event means he currently sits third. Rankin’s third place finish in the season opener coupled to his recent finish has him at the top of the charts,” explained Avalon’s Jeff Drew.

With a brand new Ford Fiesta on offer once again this summer, defending track champion Stephen Bell lost ground when he dropped out of the final on Monday night while running fifth. Had Bell finished in fifth he would be a mere 15 points in arrears of Rankin however he currently finds himself in fifth position just five points behind opening round winner Steven Lines.
