The battle lines are drawn and the enforcer who thrashed opponents across Australia last summer is ready to weave his magic in the annual Eureka Southern sprintcar showdown at Avalon Raceway on Saturday night.
Mount Gambier’s Steven Lines began the season with high expectations of repeating his amazing success on the World Series trail that stopped 13 times from coast to coast.
However, that was not to be and he has been forced to take a back seat to Victorian Jamie Veal.
Veal stormed out of the box like a tornado, winning the $10.000 Jackpot at Avalon followed by three majors in Sydney plus event successes at Moama, Warrnambool and virtually everywhere sprintcars are raced.
Jamie and South Australian Daniel Pestka go head to head tomorrow night in a bid to resolve the Essendon Ford Sweepstakes and a $20.000 point score result in favour of either driver.
Lines (pictured) is regarded as Sprintcar racing’s ‘silent Sam’ and intends allowing both Veal and Pestka to go after each other and that should allow him to rob the purse of a nifty $5000.
”They have their own war to resolve and that suits Steven perfectly,” Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew told us this week.
“He has a deadpan persona away from his race can, but the moment he is in the cockpit and geared to go, look out because he means business.”
Racing at the Place for Pace will start at 7 o’clock while gates open at three and the popular spectator pit walk gets underway at 3.00 p.m.
