Avalon Raceway is heading into it’s busiest time of the year as the month of money gets closer. Sprintcar action kicks of on Boxing Night December 26th with the Sharp Cranes Sprintcar Gold Cup. Where once again a top quality field is expected to tackle Rd 2 of the Essendon Ford Track Championship currently lead by Steven Lines who will be away on World Series duty giving the main title contenders a chance to close in or pass Lines. In particular Shaun Dobson who finished 2nd to Lines, will be looking for a good run as will Americans Kyle Hurst and Geoff Ensign. Along with Avalon specialists Brett Milburn, Mike Van Bremen and John Vogels. Vogels in particular has been in good form and currently sits in 4th place in the Essendon Ford season long Track Championship. Also that night will see the Christmas Cup for Modified Productions that will also be hotly contested in an epic Ford Vs Holden battle.
Four nights later the World Series Rd 4 rolls in to town where young guns Lines and McFadden will attempt to rule the roost over wily veterans Murcott, Farr and Company.
The following Saturday Night will see Victoria’s biggest blue ribbon Super Sedan event the K-Rock cup take place, over the years this race has created some epic battles to wear the coveted winners K- Rock jacket. Last years winner Brad Wicks won his second K- Rock cup after a late race pass, and will be looking to become a 3 time winner and into the history books alongside Tony Grinstead, Mick Nicola and Peter Logue as 3 time winners. Although stiff opposition will come from David McKenzie. Ash Bergmeier, Lucas Roberts and a strong interstate contingent. Jan 4th will also see Victoria’s richest Demo Derby event with $5k going to the last car mobile. That will be one to excite the masses.
Sprintcar action 410 and 360 return on Jan 11th for the Victorian Championships decided on the one night. Points for the Essendon Ford Track Championship will also be awarded this night just to spice up the action.
One week later Jan 18th will see Modified Productions and Speedcars take centre stage with the West Coast Classic for sedans and the G Town Rumble for the mighty midgets. Mark Carlin is hoping to win his 4th West Coast Classic and join his illustrious father Max as a 4 time winner of Victoiras longest running modified production event. While Justin Drew, Russell Bent and Ross Madden will be trying to take out the event. The G Town Rumble sits along side the West Coast Classic. while a relative new event has seen the event grow in statue each year. Travis Mills and Andy Pearce will lead the Victorian charge against a strong interstate line up.
Wednesday Jan 22d round out the moth of money for the running of the Essendon Ford Presidents Cup. Where already a strong international field is assembling with David Gravel, Kyle Hurst, Geoff Ensign, Jason Sides and World Outlaws champ Daryn Pitman, take on Australia’s best in this $10,000 to win event, that precedes the Kings Challenge in Mt Gambier and of course the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Premier Speedway. Once again the presidents Cup will see plenty of aggressive racing as the cut throat format ensures drivers must take chances to advance.
So in all the next 4 weeks will be a speedway paradise in Geelong.
