Sydney sprintcar ace Ian Loudoun hopes to end Jaimie Veal’s outstanding record this summer in the Gold Cup classic at Avalon Raceway on Boxing night.
Veal has hit a purple patch to start this summer winning three feature races back to back in Sydney, two SRA Eureka rounds here in Victoria plus the $10.000 pay off at Avalon’s Jackpot classic on November 8.
Loudoun (pictured) has won the Sydney track premiership and Warrnambool’s Grand Annual classic so he is no Johnny-come lately.
Apart from a stunning trophy and some pocket money, Friday night’s main event could net Jamie a $20.000 leg up in the Essendon Ford Sweepstakes.
The premiership may not be resolved until the final night of the season, but valuable points on Boxing night are too good to pass up.
“Loudoun has a good ride in David Dickson’s machine so he is in the game with a big chance, but Veal is on a roll,” said Raceway spokesman Jeff Drew yesterday.
A strong roll up of 45 cars will undertake qualifying heats on Boxing night with the first race at 7.00 p.m.
