Max Dumesny, the much revered elder statesman of sprintcar racing, makes a sentimental return to the pointy end of the field in Friday night’s Easter Trail opener at Avalon Raceway.

Dumesny (pictured), who was raised and raced at Warrnambool, seldom has the chance to get his elbows up at Avalon because of his business and racing commitments in Sydney.

He will field two cars on Good Friday for himself and young son Matt who threatens to keep the family name up front when dad calls it quits.

He could be forced to wait for a spell as Max, 47, continues to win at will whether it be in Bunbury, WA, Speedway City, Adelaide or the Parramatta circuit in Sydney.

The Dumesnys face a torrid of opposition in the Easter Trail classic on Friday from Essendon Ford $20.000 premiership top seeds Daniel Pestka, Jamie Veal, Steven Lines and Brett Milburn.

The event is oversubscribed with 52 entries to vie for the 18 starting spots for the 30 lap main event.

Max and Matt Dumesny, Sammy Walsh, Jackson Delamont, Ian Loudoun and Grant Anderson will spearhead a six pronged NSW attack on the local classic that offers a $20.000 premiership pay off to the winner plus a new Harley Davidson and a $10.000 bonus incentive over the Easter meetings.

β€œThe financial rewards to flow from this weekend are outstanding and that explains why we have attracted such a quality field,” said Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew.
