The Routleys Sprintcar Stampede will open the Essendon Ford $20.000 Sweepstakes at Avalon International Raceway on Saturday, 10 November,
The season long battle for valuable points will deliver a new Ford Fiesta to the summer’s top point man and World Series champ James McFadden plans for it to be him.
McFadden opened the season with a less than perfect score in the recent CAT Rentals Jackpot which fell to hard charging David Murcott, along with a $10.000 cheque.
With the World Series rounds not starting until 26 December this year, Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew believes the Essendon Ford premiership will attract significant interest from interstate racers.
“A few guys will miss our Boxing Night show so they have a chance to put some points on the board before Christmas by running two of the big shows,” indicated Jeff.
“We are indebted to David Dickson and Essendon Ford for their wonderful support of the Sweepstakes and I would like to think we have given a wonderful incentive to Victorian drivers to chase a big money pay off,” he added.
Outstanding regulars Stephen Bell, Johnny Vogels, Steven Lines, Brett Milburn, Mike Van Bremen and Nick Lacey are in the premiership scramble with a big chance.
So too is Darren Mollenoyux who needs only an ounce of luck to go his way and he will be in the final five.
Routleys Bakery will again have naming rights sponsorship to the point score opener and their participation marks a milestone in their backing of the sprintcars at Avalon.
“Routleys have been baking the best pies and pasties since 1947 and they have also been supporting the big shows here at Avalon for over a decade,”
said Jeff.
Organisers believe the final entry list for the Essendon Ford series opener should contain a couple of surprises when announced next week.
