Lose a Saturday night during the holiday season because of bad weather and chances are you won’t replicate it before Easter.
When the Raceway abandoned the January 3 family show because of the threat of high winds and 42c temperatures we abandoned the fixture after consulting with the Fire authorities.
As things turned out conditions changed by mid-afternoon and thunderstorms finished off the threat.
The meeting, that consists of the K-Rock Super Sedan Cup, the Routleys Demolition Derby and the 72nd Victorian speedcar championship, will now highlight Super Saturday on February 21st with increased fields.
“I was gutted when we lost January 3 and never thought we would gain momentum again until the entries began to pour in,” said Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew this week.
“We added the Victorian speedcar title to the show to honour a commitment and entries from Western Australia, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane have flooded in to make the event something special,” Jeff added.
The line up now includes WA’s Dayne Kingshot, Paul Robinson and Nick Rowe, Adelaide’s Graham Knuckey, Sydney trio Mark Brown, Brayden Willmington and Dean Merrylees plus Queensland’s incomparable Brett Thomas (pictured) and Brendan Palmer.
Throw into the mix our Victorian aces Travis Mills, Domain Ramsay, Paul Farrell and Troy Jordan and you have all the makings of a true classic.
The K-Rock Cup for V8 super sedans has also been boosted by the Nicola family, former Australian champ Mick Nicola, son Mick Jnr and sibling Paul who are chasing a rare 1-2-3 in the 25 lapper.
And to round off the excitement Routleys, the bakers, will present a no holds barred Demolition Derby, re-scheduled from January 3.
