Consistency should again play in favour of Sprintcar young gun Daniel Alford in tonight’s (Saturday) wingless National event at Avalon Raceway.
The 23 year-old Lara driver is into his second competitive season and has displayed uncanny performance placings throughout the summer.
“We set out to finish within the top 10 at every start and it seems to be working well for us on a variety of tracks,” said Daniel this week.
Keeping Alford honest is 20 year old Cobram driver Rhys Baxter who has not looked back since joining Daniel Beard’s Sprintcarzone team for the season.
He too is more consistent now after a freshman year that was spectacular though not as rewarding as it could have been.
“Many of the rookie drivers start in a blaze of speed that needs to be tempered with car control to save them from enormous repair bills,” said Wingless Sprintcar President Troy Small.
Experienced veterans, like 63 year-old Lloyd Hobson won the big show at Bairnsdale last weekend and should rattle some cages tonight as will another speedway senior citizen Peter Logue.
Peter raced sedans for many years, won the national and Victorian titles and retired, only to re-surface in a wingless Sprintcar.
Known as the Mayor of Morwell, the Gippsland hot shoe is the first to admit he has re-discovered both the thrill and satisfaction of racing a Sprintcar and not rebuilding it every week because of other people’s racetrack indiscretions.
Wingless sprint cars, V8 dirt modifieds, AMCA nationals and street stocks will make up the bulk of tonight’s meeting at Avalon Raceway with the green flag waving at 6.00 p.m.
