After trailing the international drivers in Sydney and Brisbane over the past three weeks, Victoria’s Mr Magic, Jamie Veal, would like to get back on track in Wednesday night’s President’s Cup sprintcar classic at Avalon Raceway.

Veal opted to miss the Victorian championship at Avalon on January 10 and go   interstate while his premiership rival, South Australian Daniel Pestka, stayed behind, won the title and now leads the Essendon Ford premiership over Veal.

“Jamie is a tough professional who tests himself every time he races and a runner up spot in Sydney on Saturday against the best in the business, is a testament to his ability,” said Avalon spokesman Jeff Drew last night.

Veal (pictured below courtesy of Corey Gibson) and Pestka are among the 62 entries for Wednesday night’s lucrative event that pays $10.000 to win.

Pestka currently holds a 40 point premiership margin over Jamie and he is determined to keep a vice like grip on the series as a new Ford valued at $20.000 goes to the winner.

World Series leader Brooke Tatnell (pictured below courtesy of Corey Gibson) returns to Avalon in the Krikke team Chevy and desperately wants a good result as does former national champ Robbie Farr.

The son of former dual national sprint and speedcar champion George Tatnell, Brooke has always done well locally, but there’s been lean pickings here over the past two years.

Qualifying time trials could determine who goes fast or goes home tomorrow night.

Twenty one year-old Christopher Bell of Norman, Oklahoma will attract plenty of interest.

He raced in Arizona a week ago and in the Chili Bowl at Tulsa on Saturday before catching a flight and is due in Melbourne this morning.
