WHITE TAKES HOME THE PRESTIGIOUS K ROCK JACKET BACK TO NEW SOUTH WALES
Andrew White out of Eden, NSW is able to join an illusive group after becoming one of very few interstate drivers to wear the K Rock Cup jacket.
Mick Nicola JNR would open the first heat Race for the time honoured K Rock Cup in the Victoria #1 Super Sedan taking the win from Lionel West and Peter Nicola.
Heat Race two would go the way of Darren Giacometti who held out a fast finishing Andrew White in the NSW25.
Feature Race time for the K Rock Cup would get off to an abrupt start with Jamie Collins getting tangled in a first lap incident that would see him out of the race. After fighting hard with Mick Nicola JNR for most of the race, White was able to rail by the top side with only a few laps to go before storming home to claim his first K Rock Cup and Jacket.
Jacob Pitcher is fast making a name for himself amongst the Super Rod ranks, he was epic in heat race 1A winning over Peter Duynhoven.
Heat 1B would make the best start he could, by winning with a very narrow gap over Jason Kavanagh and Stan Marco Jnr.
Kavanagh would go one step higher in heat 2A where he would win with a monumental lead over Dane Court and Rod Smith.
Jamie May would take a narrow victory over Shaun Walsh and Paul Verhoeven in the final heat of the night.
With a slab of the finest Australian Lager up for grabs to the winner of the Super Rod Shuffle, it would be Jason Kavanagh who’d continue his form and take home 24 icy brews to team 55.
Kavanagh undoubtedly would lead all 20 laps of the main event, taking with him Jamie May and young gun Jacob Pitcher to fill the podium. Stan Marco Jnr and Neville Gange would finalise the top five for Super Rods.
Crash and Bash has always been a fan favourite at Avalon Raceway since joining the program. The off the rails anything goes style of racing gives fans the thrills and spills of action packed racing.
Daniel Kettles in the #107, Steve Mitchell in the #111 and Jarrod Hughes in the #623 were the opening round of heat winners respectively who managed to escape the most damage and cross the line first.
Round two of heats would see Jarrod Hughes go back to back heat wins, with Anthony Sgroi in the #8 and Stuey Robinson in the #136 claiming their individual heat race wins.
Steve Mitchell claimed another win in the third round, while Jarrod Hughes completed a perfect round of heats winning all three, Jarrod’s father Kevin would win the final heat race of the night himself in the #126.
Main event time would mean 26 of the toughest Crash and Bash cars take to Avalon Raceway one last time for the night. Father and son Hughes team would get to work quickly with Kevin holding onto the third place spot whole Jarrod would streak out in the lead.
Jarrod managed to hang on out in front escaping most of the wreckage to gather a 5 second advantage over Anthony Sgroi in second. Kevin would be ecstatic in joining the podium with his son in third and the pair would parade a huge burnout and celebration following the win.
Avalon Raceway will now turn its sights to the annual Sprintcar Presidents Cup where tickets are now on sale at www.avalonraceway.com.au for Wednesday January 19.
