The Next Generation
of Racing Stars

Quarter midgets are miniature open-wheel oval racing cars designed specifically for young drivers. At Avalon Raceway, children as young as five can begin their motorsport journey in a safe, structured and highly competitive environment that develops real racing skills.

The program runs from Novice class right through to Senior competition, giving young drivers a clear pathway to develop. Many of Australia's top speedway stars began their careers in quarter midgets — and the next generation is right here at Avalon.

Age Groups

Competition Classes

Novice
120cc — 5/16 RestrictorAges 5–6 yrs

The very beginning of the motorsport journey. Novice class is designed for children aged 5–6, fitted with a 5/16 restrictor on the 120cc engine to keep speeds safe and manageable while young drivers learn the basics of oval racing.

Junior Restricted
120cc — 7/16 RestrictorAges 7–8 yrs

The step up from Novice. Junior Restricted class runs the same 120cc engine with a 7/16 restrictor, giving 7–8 year olds slightly more speed as they develop racecraft and confidence on the oval.

Junior
120ccAges 9–11 yrs

Unrestricted 120cc competition for drivers aged 9–11. Junior class delivers genuine close racing as competitors build the skills and awareness needed to progress into the faster Senior division.

Senior
160ccAges 10–16 yrs

The most competitive junior oval class at Avalon. Senior quarter midgets run a 160cc engine and attract drivers aged 10–16, providing fast, door-to-door racing and a clear pathway toward senior speedway categories.
