Friday night Speedway returned to The Place for Pace – Avalon Raceway, and what a night it was!

A fantastic crowd rolled through the gates for the Combined Waste Services $10,000 Sprintcar Jackpot Invitational, alongside the Wingless Sprint Invitational, as Avalon hosted its first Sprintcar meeting of the 2026/27 season.

The night also marked the opening round of the Doolan’s Heavy Haulage Sprintcar Track Championship, proudly presented by Camden Signage and Building Services, Transall Motors, NAPA Geelong and Penrite Oil.

The drama started early in qualifying, with Daniel Pestka and Tim Van Ginneken remarkably recording identical fastest laps a count back would see Pestka take honors with a $250 Max Dumesny Motorsport voucher.

With a strong crowd building and plenty of action throughout the heat races, the stage was set for a thrilling $10,000-to-win feature.

Reigning Australian Champion Jock Goodyer took command early, leading the opening half of the race before New Zealand’s Max Guilford began building serious momentum.

Guilford made his move into the lead and never looked back, charging to the chequered flag and collecting the $10,000 payday aboard the Hobson Family Racing machine!

Having admitted earlier in the evening that Avalon hadn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground in previous visits, Guilford certainly changed that on Friday night!

Goodyer would have to settle for the runner-up position, while James McFadden produced one of the drives of the night, charging from P12 to P3 aboard the newly unveiled PWR car for Team Brady.

The Avalon clay provided plenty of passing opportunities, with Luke Storer storming from P11 to finish fourth, while qualifying standout Daniel Pestka recovered from heat race dramas to charge from P18 into the top five!

It was another impressive performance from Blake Walsh, who continued his winning form at Avalon Raceway!

Following his victory at the season opener, Walsh faced a new challenge on Friday night, starting from P8 following a 10-car field inversion.

But that wasn’t enough to stop him!

Walsh worked his way through the field to claim back-to-back Avalon victories, with Chris Temby taking second and Luke Weel continuing his strong early-season form with another podium finish in third.
