On the back of the release of their 2026-27 Racing Calendar, the first of two notable additions for Avalon Raceway is the Australian Formula Championship which is set down for decision on January 8 and 9, with official practice and a Calcutta to kick off proceedings on Thursday January 7.
The Aero6Four Racing Products Australian Formula 500 Australian Championship will be proudly supported by Penrite Oil and Jettco, is sure to be an amazing weekend, set to be contested by the best-of-the-best in from the Formula 500 ranks, with the timing of the event falling adjacent to the ever popular Formula 500 Speedweek tournament.
The 2026 version of the Australian Championship attracted a stout field of 75 Senior competitors, with Terry Rankin claiming the coveted A1 in dominant style.
In addition to the senior competition, the Junior Formula 500’s also attracted a strong field, both in talent and numbers, with the team at Borderline Speedway putting on a faultless event from start to finish.
Being allocated hosting rights for the Australian Championship is something the team at Avalon Raceway are proud of.
“We are super excited to be able to provide the backdrop for Terry Rankin’s Formula 500 Championship defense and are looking forward to carrying the standards Mount Gambier set for this event back in March into a new year and a new Championship”, Speedway Operations Manager David Mills said.
“To have the amazing partnership agreements with Aero6Four Racing Products, Penrite Oil as well as the support from Stephen and Leah Bell at Jettco in place, is testimony to the standing this event has within our community, we can’t wait to play host to it”, he added.

Thursday January 7, 2027 – Practice and Calcutta.
Friday January 8, 2027 – Night One
Saturday January 9, 2027 – Night Two (Championship Night)
